Spring Food Photoshoot with Fredericks Pastries – NH Food Photographer

This past week I wrapped my latest shoot for Fredericks Pastries, which is always the highlight of my season.  There is something about the smell of that incredible Fredericks Pastries frosting that sends me back to my first days  as a food photographer, its like home, it wraps me up like a warm, delicious sugary blanket.  I am never quite as happy as when I’m shooting for Fredericks Pastries, and so these photoshoots are always something I look forward to.  They give me pretty much free reign over the creative direction of the shoots, and its always an opportunity to try new things, new lighting set ups, new props, its a chance for me to push my work forward.

After bringing all the boxes and boxes of product down to the studio, I took a second to review the items I was given, make a shot list as well as a prop and setup list.  Right from the start, I noticed that this time things seemed a little different.  It started with the cupcakes, because Fredericks Pastries is known for their amazing, creative cupcakes, I have never EVER seen any other bakery make cupcakes that even come close to the detail and artwork that you find on a Fredericks Pastries cupcake.  The difference with this latest batch of cupcakes was the detail of the details (I’m pretty sure that is not proper English).  These cupcakes had the most minute detailed decorations to them, I was honestly blown away.  The hand piped frosting on the cupcakes was so fine and precise, I’ve never seen that before, it was amazing.

The clear trend throughout this shoot was the new “mini” cupcakes, tiny perfect little bite size morsels of deliciousness.  Its no secret that I am a Purple Velvet fanatic, I had my first one a few  years ago and since then have been hooked on this flavor.  When I saw that they were making Purple Velvet cupcakes in this mini version I was pretty much over the moon.  As a food photographer, I shoot with a macro lens, which allows me to get right down to the details of any food photograph, and even with these little mini cupcakes, shooting them with a macro lens, the detail of each one held up perfectly, from the piping to the tiny sprinkles.  But the best part is, from a customer standpoint, the sheer variety that you can enjoy now.  I can normally make it through maybe 2 full size cupcakes (Fredericks Pastries cupcakes are HUGE), but with these new mini cupcakes, I can actually get to try almost all their different flavors in one sitting!

So I hope you all enjoy some of these sample photos from this most recent Fredericks Pastries photoshoot, they are doing some new exciting things over there, and I know that at a customer of Fredericks Pastries I’m excited for spring and the new spring items they are rolling out.
