This past summer I had the opportunity to work again with the great folks behind the amazing Baked Nostalgia Doughnuts, this time though we shooting a new product, Whoopie Pies. They have recently expanded the company with a line of amazing new whoopie pies ranging from the traditional chocolate and vanilla, to red velvet, pumpkin, and mint, just to name a few. Being that we wanted to keep a similar look and feel with the Baked Nostalgia, we based the food and prop styling of the Whoop It Up Whoopie Pies on the food photographs we did previously with the doughnuts.
This is the first series of a 2 part set with the second set being shot soon, and that one is the food photoshoot I’m looking forward too because on that shoot we are photographing the red velvet whoopie pies, and that is one of my favorite flavors.
Whoopie pies are defiantly one of the more challenging food to photograph. I consider them the “diva” of the desert food photography world, because they like the spotlight. Whoopie pies really don’t need much along side them, cake needs a slide, cookies need milk, but whoopie pies really seem to need to be shot by themselves, and so that defiantly makes that a more challenging food photoshoot. This food photoshoot made me aware of a broader need for more table tops and props, so I’m hard at work making new “vintage” tabletops for the upcoming shoot, so stay tuned!
